Waking up for work is hard enough. Figuring out what to eat for breakfast is a whole other issue, and if you are anything like me, your refrigerator is always empty. For those of us who hit the road at 6 a.m. during the work week, grabbing a good breakfast is a challenge. Sure, gas stations have pop tarts and yogurt, and McDonald’s has greasy fatty foods, but where do you go when you want a healthy and satisfying meal to kick start your day?
Big Apple Bagels on Haines Road in York, PA opens at 6 in the morning. It is the one stop shop where you can get a delicious meal and fresh coffee. I meet Chris who sits down with me and explains his shop. Besides the excellent prices and freshness, outstanding quality is what Big Apple Bagels is all about. Chris says that the quality of his product is what people like. I hear a lot of chatter of those of us who are always on the go but cannot find a quick and easy restaurant that isn’t fast food. Big Apple Bagels is the best for the go-getters, the health nuts, and the penny savers!
So if you’re a bagel lover, then obviously Big Apple Bagels is a great place for you to start your day. My first visit to the restaurant was during the afternoon hours, and you betcha there are lunch options as well! I decide to go for the Turkey Club which has turkey, bacon, American cheese, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. The great thing about a bagel shop is that you get to choose which bagel you want your sandwich on. This was overwhelming for me since I do not discriminate against any type of bagel, but I decide to go with the Tomato Basil. The sandwich is delicious, and I pack up my second half to enjoy as a snack later on.
The lunch options are fabulous. Some other great choices are the Classic Turkey, Kick-N Roast Beef, Holey Guacamole, Turkey and Havarti, and the Big Apple Club. The Big Apple Club is one I had my eye on before ordering the Turkey Club. The Apple Club includes ham, turkey, bacon, American cheese, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. Yum!
Okay, back to the breakfast items. Like I mentioned before, Chris prides himself on the fact that his products are freshly made with top quality ingredients. One of the breakfast sandwiches that interests me is the Northern Omelet. This deliciousness includes scrambled eggs, sausage, American cheese, tomatoes, and green peppers. There is also a Just Veggies! Omelet which has scrambled eggs, green peppers, tomatoes, and onion. Of course you get to pick the type of bagel you want for any of the sandwiches you order!
When you walk into Big Apple Bagels you will see a large selection of cream cheeses to the right of the register. There are tasty options you can choose to spread onto your bagel or if you wish, to take home and enjoy later. There is Cinnamon Carmel and Apple, Cinnamon Honey Pecan, Cheddar Jalapeno, Classic Plain, Garden Veggie, Lite Classic, Onion Chive, and Strawberry.
Big Apple Bagels has a bright future. Local residents have known the shop for many years, and there is a lot of loyalty in the air. During my time at Big Apple Bagels, the staff catered to my needs and was very friendly. This is something that will always bring customers walking through the door. As I chat with Chris he tells me that the shop is expecting big things in the near future. The newest item added to the menu is CUPCAKES. To add some variety to the menu, the cupcakes are beautifully decorated and deliciously scrumptious!
Big Apple Bagels will satisfy all of your cravings. Even if you do not know what you are in the mood for, you can stop in and guarantee a delicious meal or snack. There are muffins, bagels, cupcakes, sandwiches that everyone will love. If you are trying to win over your coworkers, the bagel shop offers catering. Throw some cupcakes in there and everyone will be thanking you for satisfying their taste buds!
