The first thing most people think of when they see friendly’s restaurant is the fabulous ice cream options. You probably aren’t itching to have ice cream after the snow we just got, but Friendly’s offers much more than just ice cream. Before the snow hit, I made a trip to Friendly’s which is located at 1655 Columbia Avenue Lancaster. I meet Eric who is the manager and tell him I want to try some food that his customers can’t get enough of.
A great way to try a lot of items at once is to order the Munchie Mania. This meal can be served with three appetizer items. Eric brings out Loaded Waffle Fries, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, and Mini Mozzarella Sticks. There is marinara sauce and blue cheese dressing for dipping. I am a sucker for French fries, and the Waffle Fries do not disappoint as I crunch into the cheese and bacon bites. The Buffalo Tenders are excellent to dip in the sauces. The Mini Mozzarella Sticks are a small tasty treat. They were easy to pop into my mouth, and they had lots of great flavor.
Because the Munchie Mania allows you to pick three menu items, there are a bunch of great choices. You can mix and match with Chicken Quesadillas, Cheeseburger Sliders, and Onion Rings.
Eric said his most popular sandwich is the Honey BBQ Chicken Supermelt. The meal comes with fries and big flavor! The sandwich includes chicken tenders, sweet honey BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, and ranch dressing. All this delicious flavor is served on sourdough bread. The sandwich is like a grilled cheese, but obviously better! Speaking of grilled cheese, Friendly’s offers grilled cheese sandwiches with a side of tomato soup. The BBQ Supermelt is a comfort sandwich, but you may be surprised at all the flavors your taste buds feel!
You could probably browse Friendly’s menu all day and keep seeing items that you think would be delicious. If you are a grilled cheese lover like myself, then the supermelt is something you need to try. Along with the popular Honey BBQ Chicken Supermelt, Friendly’s also has Philly Steak and Cheese, Reuben, Turkey Club, Tuna Salad, Fishamajig, and Sweet Red Chili Chicken Supermelt.
No matter what you may be in the mood for, Friendly’s surely has something you will enjoy. The menu contains hearty burgers such as a Bacon Cheeseburger, Veggie Burger, and the Pepper Jack Burger. Or maybe you are in the mood for an Apple Harvest Chicken Salad, or Balsamic Mozzarella Chicken Salad. Friendly’s even offers hot dogs! And if you are really hungry, you can order entrees such as the Clam Strips Platter, 4-Cheese Penne, or the Fried Shrimp. But make sure you leave room for ice cream!
Eric boxes up the remaining food for me, and asks what kind of ice cream I like. I tell him I usually just go for the vanilla, but I love peanut butter. I ask him if people tend to order ice cream when they order delivery, and Eric says YES! Friendly’s is a place where you go for a great atmosphere, but usually people have ice cream on their minds when they walk through the door. So when people are ordering delivery, their thoughts on ice cream are still buzzing. Eric says he is going to whip me up a Friend-Z. On the menu you will see several different Friend-Zs available. There is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Oreo Cookie Pieces, Birthday Cake, Kit Kat, Butterfinger, M&Ms, Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Banana, and Cookie Dough. I assume Eric is going to bring me out the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup since I mentioned I like vanilla and peanut butter, but he actually brings me out a different tasty surprise. Eric says, “I created it myself” and hands me a Friend-Z that has vanilla ice cream, peanut butter (lots of peanut butter!), and bananas. It taste like a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich! As full as I am from my delicious meal, I eat my entire Friend-Z with much happiness.
Friendly’s is an excellent restaurant to go to if you are looking for a meal that will satisfy your hunger. And of course the ice cream will keep you coming back for more. You will never get tired of the menu, and the staff is always friendly and looking to make every customers’ experience great.
