Fuddruckers  A Favorite Franchise with a Local Feel - Restaurant Review

By Kelsey R.

I have never been to a Fuddruckers, but when I think of the name I always think of burgers. When I walked into the restaurant that is located at 2300 E Market Street in York, I could tell right away that if I was in the mood for a good burger, then that is what I was going to get. But it is not your typical burger and fries joint. That is for sure!

The two ladies behind the counter both greet me as I walk in. Leah is the woman who is going to show me the experience the York Fuddruckers has to offer. She allows me to pick what I want to try. Of course I see a burger, but I also tell her I want to try other popular items. Leah gets to work on preparing a meal for me. In the meantime I am told I can sit wherever I want in the dining area, refills are free, and when I am finish, the staff will clean up my meal. Just in that brief introduction I already feel very welcomed.

The dining area is part of the exciting experience of Fuddruckers. When you look around you will see checkered table cloths, games to play, and décor reflecting different music groups such as The Beatles, and The Beach Boys. I take a few minutes to read some of the interesting signs on the wall and take a look at the neat photographs.

Burgers with all the toppings in the world!

The first meal Leah brings out for me to try is the three cheese burger. There are French fry wedges on the side as well as sweet potato fries. The burger is open in front of me and Leah directs me to the Produce Bar. The Produce Bar allows customers to put on toppings that suit their taste buds. I cut my burger in half and dive in. The bun seems extra fresh to me, and Leah tells me that the buns are baked every day. The burgers are never frozen. Customers will always get that fresh taste. I think it is such a great concept to allow the customer to dress their burger with whatever produce and condiments they want. Even if you just wanted some pickles on the side (which is what I wanted) you have that option.

Leah brings out a Beef Taco Salad. Fuddruckers offers a menu that will meet the needs of any type of customer. Some people are burger fans, others want a nice salad. The portion sizes also vary. If a child wants a burger, but his little fingers can’t wrap around the big fresh bun, Fuddruckers can make him a slider. But the taco salad was something that I would lean towards typically if I were dining out. It had a great shell that I could break off and crumble in with my greens. There was fresh guacamole, salsa, and sour cream.  Leah then brings me out a vanilla milkshake! After the day I was having, I could not wait to slurp that milkshake down! It was enjoyable to sit and eat a different variety of food and have so many choices!

Free Beer and Free Party Room

I am finishing up my meal, but I still wanted to relax and enjoy my milkshake. Leah sits and chats with me for a bit and tells me that the restaurant offers a free party room. The restaurant is very family friendly, and having somewhere to spend a kid’s birthday, for minimal cost is hard to find! Fuddruckers also offers one cup of free beer to guest, or guest can BYOB. Again, creating that family-friendly environment is important to Fuddruckers, but also creating an environment that welcomes different ages, and types of customers is what people really enjoy.

Not a Typical Franchise

The concept of Create Your Own is an important philosophy. The Produce Bar and the condiment station show customers that they are in control of what they can put with their meal. Fuddruckers is a franchise, but the owner, George, wanted to create a restaurant that was unique to the people of York. George takes pride in his restaurant. He works all the time and encourages his staff members to great customers by their names, remember their orders, and always treat them like they are family. George also makes a point to customize the menu. Although Fuddruckers is a franchise, the local customer will see that certain menu items change depending on the season. Right now the restaurant is offering a pumpkin milkshake. There is also wraps and quesadillas made that are not typically on the menu.

The best part about Fuddruckers is that the food is made to order, however, it still arrives on the table in about eight minutes. The prices are great and the quality of the food is exceptional.

Leah wanted me to try an Exotic Sampler. I had pieces of buffalo, elk, boar, and turkey. Next week the restaurant is offering ostrich. Who would have thought Fuddruckers offered these kinds of choices? The food was wonderful, but the experience of being in a restaurant that is entertaining and accommodating is the most enjoyable. It is a place to come to for more than a meal. It can be a whole evening event for families at a reasonable cost. Or if you want bring some beverages, play some games, and eat whatever burger your taste buds crave, then Fuddruckers is where you need to be!
