Pita Pit on Harrisburg Pike in Lancaster is where you want to have your lunch break during these chilly fall days. Fast service and a great atmosphere is what people want when their stomachs are growling. With a great location that serves many businesses such as the Lancaster General Hospital, RR Donnelley, and F&M College, Pita Pit is buzzing with activity. College kids love pitas, and business workers love a good snack! Pita Pit has a menu that includes smoothies, sweets, and any healthy or not so healthy pita you can think of.
The restaurant is in a cozy space right outside of Lancaster City. With an urban feel and an artistic vibe, Pita Pit is a fun place to share a meal with friends. I meet Jenna who runs the Pita Pit in Lancaster, but before Jenna and I can chat about what items I will be trying, the restaurant gets swamped with customers. Jenna and her staff work quickly to serve the hungry guest. I hear some of the staff help the customers decide on different sauces and meat to put inside their pita. Jenna puts some cookies out by the register and tells me to try a sample. She also gives me a taste of the Featured Smoothie which is Peach Bottom. I take my samples and sit at a table.
Jenna asks me if there is another smoothie I want to try. I tell her the Banana Very Berry which has strawberries, banana, and orange juice. I realize I ate all of my cookies and wonder if I can get some more. Jenna tells me that they like to put samples by the register for their customers to try, especially when there is a new smoothie available.
As Jenna and her staff assist the customers, they are also preparing two pitas for me to try. In a matter of minutes Jenna hands me a plate with two pitas bursting at the seams. The thing with pitas is that you cannot unwrap them like you can a sub, so I had no idea what I was about to bite into. I go in blind to my first bite. I taste some lettuce and feta cheese. I take another bite and get some dressing and a black olive.
This first pita is a Greek Pita. The pita is fabulous. It is just like a salad wrapped up which is a nice healthy alternative without actually eating a salad. I keep chomping away at my Greek Pita, and Jenna joins me at my table. We get to chatting about how the restaurant likes to accommodate all guests. There are small pitas available for those who do not have time for a full meal or for those who just want a little snack. They have featured smoothies that change every so often and they also have a Local pita (which is the other pita on my plate) that changes every so often as well.
I take a break from my Greek Pita and dive into the Local Pita. This pita is one that will change in a couple weeks. Inside the Local Pita is grilled chicken, banana peppers, salsa, black beans, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. Jenna explains it is Mexican styled and very popular. For someone who loves Mexican food as much as me, this was the perfect pita to try! I didn’t know how I would like the salsa and banana peppers, but they were delicious! I think the salsa really made the pita that much more delicious. I ate about half of that pita and then wrapped up the rest to take home to Jason.
You may have seen Pita Pits elsewhere in your travels, but the Pita Pit in Lancaster is independently operated. The Lancaster Pita Pit provides discounts to the YMCA employees, Police Officers, Firefighters, other Service workers in uniform, and employees at Lancaster General Hospital. On Friday and Saturdays the restaurant is open until 3:00 a.m. which is perfect for those late night college kids or those of us who work third shift. And the icing on the cake is that Pita Pit offers catering through Carryout Courier. Jenna told me a lot of businesses order lunches through them, and lately the restaurant has been booming with orders! So weather you are craving a pita at 3 in the morning, or you are planning a nice office luncheon, Pita Pit is there for you.
Hi everyone, I want to share a few things about myself. I have lived in Lancaster County my entire life.
I went to The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and received a Bachelors in English Education and Writing. Currently, I am working as a real estate agent for Berkshire Hathaway, and of course I am doing some writing on the side! I live with my wonderful cat, Waffle in Lancaster City. Besides working and playing with my cat I also read and practice yoga.
