Stubby’s Bar and Grille is the one place that has been in my heart ever since I was little. I can remember my dad dragging me to the restaurant to watch West Virginia football games. I can remember in high school my dad bribing me with Triple Decker Nachos so I could be the DD after a night of watching sports. And now as an adult my dad and I still go to Stubby’s on Thursday evenings to grab some wings or a cheesesteak. Stubby’s is my go-to spot on St. Patty’s day, and it is also my favorite spot to have a girls’ night any day of the week.
Before I knew I was heading out to Stubby’s for the week, my friend Misty had already asked me to meet her at Stubby’s for a bite to eat. I call Lara, who is an owner, and I tell her I was already planning on swinging by.
The best thing about the restaurant has to be the staff. No matter how busy it gets, the staff is always friendly. The food is always brought out in a timely manner, and the service is phenomenal. And if you go frequently enough like I do, they might just remember what kind of drinks you order! The staff works together as a team. It doesn’t matter who your waitress is, your dining experience will be catered by all the staff working.
Every time I go into Stubby’s I order something different. Depending on my mood, I may order a fresh salad or even a grilled cheese with tomato soup. Misty and I settle into a booth and browse over the appetizers. We go back and forth about getting wings. Stubby’s has wing night on Thursday.
We also contemplate the Ultimate Cheese Fries which are a pile of fries, oozy gooey cheese, ham, and bacon. But I just could not pass up getting the Nachos. I wanted to go back to my childhood, so we ordered the Triple Decker Nachos which include cheddar cheese, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, black olives, jalapenos. The dish also comes with salsa and sour cream. The Nachos can be ordered with chicken or chili, but Misty and I decide to go the traditional route. They were piping hot and super delicious!
Like I mentioned before, I typically order a different item off the menu. Misty mentioned the Grilled Cheeseburger. The meal is exactly how it sounds: A grilled cheese with a burger inside! It was fabulous. Misty is eyeing up the Pork Belly Burger, and asks the waitress what others think of the dish. It is a favorite amongst many people! When Misty’s meal came out I was a little jealous. Her burger had two eggs on top. She reported it was great!
Sometimes I am in the mood to take it easy, especially if I am coming from the gym. Stubby’s salads are amazing. The Chef Salad is my favorite. Spring mix lettuce, croutons, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs and onions. My favorite part of the salad is the ham, turkey, and cheese all rolled up. If you are a soup and salad person then you have to pair the Chef Salad with the Tomato Bisque. If I mention Stubby’s to anyone who has been there, they will always compliment the Tomato Bisque. The croutons and the bacon are what make the dish extra perfect!
If you need a heartier meal then I recommend the Bacon-Bleu Cheeseburger, the Buffalo Twister, or the North Side Cheesesteak. All these meals are super delicious.
Check out Stubby's Facebook Page for weekly deals. Trivia is on Tuesday nights at 8. Wing Day is on Thursdays. Wings are $6.95 for a dozen, and if you are a beer drinker there is plenty for you to watch out for. On Wednesdays there are $2.25 Miller Lite Drafts. Make sure you bring some friends to enjoy a game and eat delicious food. If you are feeling chilly from the weather, have Stubby’s delivered to you!
